Researcher Development : Essentials of Leadership
Education and Research
Education and Research This activity is for staff on R and E&R only contracts - grades E-G.
This session will be DELIVERED VIRTUALLY - joining instructions will be provided beforehand.
About this course:
"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then you are a leader." (John Quincy Adams).
Leadership is a very much-studied, but still poorly understood phenomenon.
As we progress through our careers we almost inevitably will take on more leadership responsibility; whether that be deciding on the next path to take individually, influencing one other person or leading a team, group, department or organisation.
Thankfully, especially for professionals in the early stages of their career, leadership is something that can be explored and practiced before we reach a position of supervisorial or managerial authority.
This focused, online event, created especially for Early Career Researchers will help you start to understand what leadership is, how you can lead authentically and how to get the best from the people around you.
The session will aim to provide you with a practical toolkit of models and techniques and will be responsive to your needs and questions.
Come ready to ask questions, discuss and share your insights about what you see leaders doing.
Please come to the session with a working microphone and webcam and from a place where you are able to talk freely
As a result of attending this course, you will be able to:.
- Understand the importance of strategic awareness, vision (both contextual and personal) and values.
- Consider personal style and authenticity.
- Feel motivated and improve how to get the best out of people.
- Create appropriate cultures and climates.
- Improve techniques for effective communication as a leader.
