Flu vaccinations 2020

Flu Vaccinations

 ***UPDATE as of 11/11/2020****

Following guidance from the Government, PHE and the NHS the national supply for flu vaccinations in pharmacies has been prioritised to the vulnerable and priority groups. This means the flu vaccination voucher scheme has been terminated. However, vouchers already received can still be used.  The university will also reimburse the cost of a vaccination, if you do not already have a voucher and there are more details under the FAQ section.  If you have already ordered your voucher, or had your vaccination please see the FAQ section below.

FAQs

In order to get a vaccination, you will need to book an appointment with a pharmacy.  It may not be possible to book a vaccination appointment in a pharmacy until nationally the vaccinations have been given to those in the vulnerable and priority groups. You can register with a pharmacy near to you in order for them to notify you if and when you can book an appointment.  Whether you registered to receive a voucher or not, you will need to contact the pharmacy in order to book an appointment.

If you have received a voucher, you will see the pharmacies participating in the scheme on the front of the voucher.

Please visit the Flu Xpress list of pharmacies (https://www.flu-xpress.co.uk/search-pharmacies/ ) to see those nearest you.

This message 'SALE OF FluVouchers FOR 2020 HAVE NOW BEEN DISCONTINUED' will show. If you already have a voucher, this does not apply to you and you can click OK. Scroll down the page until you reach the section 'Find your nearest retailer'. Enter your postcode to see the list of participating pharmacies near you. In order to use the voucher you will need to book with one of these pharmacies. Please note: pharmacies have temporarily suspended using these vouchers but they are expected to open again soon.

If you have not ordered a voucher, you will need to book an appointment and claim back the expense.

Following guidance from the Government, PHE and the NHS the national supply for flu vaccinations in pharmacies has been prioritised to the vulnerable and priority groups first. This means that there are fewer appointments available for the under 65s who are not deemed clinically vulnerable.

As you have already signed up for a voucher, you will receive your voucher in the post, however, the voucher can only be used in the pharmacies registered, and temporarily pharmacies have suspended using these. If you have already had a vaccination and you have not used the voucher, please now destroy the voucher.

Please email b.cossey@exeter.ac.uk and she will assist you further. Please retain your receipt.

Please check the date you ordered your voucher.  Vouchers are distributed with Royal Mail on the Monday of each week.  If you have not received your voucher for 7 working days from the previous Monday, please email b.cossey@exeter.ac.uk.

If you have symptoms, however mild, please stay at home, self-isolate and order a test.  PLEASE refer to the NHS and do NOT attend your appointment.

Coronavirus symptoms are:

  • a high temperature
  • a new, continuous cough
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

If you have any or all of these symptoms, please contact the Rapid Response Hub

*there are common side effects AFTER you have received the vaccination. Please refer to the NHS website.

No, sorry the vaccination is for the staff member only.  You will be asked to take your voucher with you to the appointment.

Additional vaccines can be purchased through the pharmacy you have ordered yours through. (Please check the individual pharmacy rules on age restrictions.)

There will be a higher demand for the flu vaccination this year, as it is advised by Government, Public Health England and the World Health Organisation that vaccinations continue throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.  This Flu Vaccination programme will end 31st December, and therefore if you have received a voucher and have not used it past this date, please email b.cossey@exeter.ac.uk

Vaccines are the most effective way to prevent infectious diseases.  The flu vaccine is the best protection against an unpredictable virus and studies show that having the vaccine helps protect you against getting the flu.  More details on why you would choose to have the vaccination can also be found on the NHS website.
