Professional Pathways

If you are a current student please see the Professional Pathways student pages.

Professional Pathways programmes offer employers the opportunity to work with motivated University of Exeter students keen to start their careers in their chosen sector:

Employers can get involved in a Professional Pathway programme by:

  • delivering a 1-hour training session
  • providing a business project for students to work on during the training
  • offering a 35 hour internship

Between 20 - 23 June 2022, students will undertake four days of employer-led training. Our plan is to run the training in-person on our Streatham campus in Exeter. We will therefore be seeking experienced and knowledgeable industry experts to volunteer their time to deliver a 1 hour session during the training.

Ideally you would:

  • have at least 3 years experience in this sector
  • be an engaging and confident presenter
  • be keen to share your experience and expertise with students at the beginning of their career
  • deliver a skills session i.e. incorporate activities to impart information, not just in a presentation style
  • be willing to utilise interactive Teaching Methods in Higher Education
  • be available to deliver your session(s) between 20 - 23 June 2022.
  • be prepared to submit your slides in advance (mid May) for feedback from the Professional Pathways team

The sessions we would like to incorporate in the training weeks are detailed on the relevant professional pathways webpages (linked further above). If there's a skill which you often find missing in your new recruits please feel free to recommend a session we should include. Please get in touch with the team by emailing

If you have a distinct project that incorporates many of the training areas detailed on the relevant web pages (linked above) please get in touch with the team on  This is an opportunity to have an area of your business researched or analysed by a group of students and could be of interest for any organisations / businesses with currently under resourced projects.

We are currently seeking reputable employers based in the South West or London who can offer a challenging 35 hour internship for a student to undertake, working either in the workplace or remotely (or a mix of both). The internship will be fully-funded by the university and need to take place between 27 June - 8 July 2022.

If you would like to offer an internship opportunity, please refer to the relevant Pathway webpage below for further information. We are looking to work on a first come, first served basis with allocating funding, so would recommend submitting your internship opportunities as soon as possible. We will be closing for vacancies no later than 31st March 2022 or when we have reached the maximum internship vacancies we are able to fund, Please note that when submitting an employer vacancy application, you are declaring that you wish to employ an intern rather than a declaration of interest or a request for further information about the scheme.

We ask all employer hosts provide their intern(s) with an induction when they begin their internship. You are welcome to complete your own induction or you may wish to use the Professional Pathways Internship induction checklist we have put together.

You can download this checklist here: Professional Pathways Internship Induction checklist.

We have also put together some notes of guidance for employers hosting an intern via the Professional Pathway programme.

You can view these here: Employer Host Notes of Guidance.
