Exe-X: Women and Leadership Reception – Revealing the Glass Cliff - FULLY BOOKED

Are female leaders set up to fail?

This year’s Women and Leadership Reception combines a fascinating look into the phenomenon of the ‘Glass Cliff’ from Professor Michelle Ryan with a wonderful opportunity to network with likeminded female graduates.

Event details

Professor Michelle Ryan will speak about the ‘Glass Cliff’, a term used describe a situation where a woman ascends to a leadership position in which the risk of failure is high – a glass cliff from which she might fall.

Shortlisted as Oxford Dictionaries word of the year 2016, the Glass Cliff has become a common term, resonating particularly in recent years with rise of female leaders such as Prime Minister Theresa May and Hilary Clinton.

Michelle’s talk will give a unique insight into over a decade’s worth of research on this topic, exploring the evidence and real-world implications of this topical issue. Michelle will also touch on her new, cutting edge work about how context constrains women’s career choices.

The Reception is organised by the Alumnae Group, and is held at London’s elegant University Women’s Club in Mayfair.

How to book:  Unfortunately this event is now fully booked. Please complete the online form to be added to the waiting list here.

The Alumnae Group works with the University to support and inspire our female graduates (alumnae) and is thought to be the only group of its kind in the UK. For further information on the group, please contact alumni@exeter.ac.uk.
