Team Leading (element of ILM Award Level 2)
| Description | Who is it for? All staff who lead or supervise a team and who have not had any prior management experience or development.
What is it about? This 4 day programme consists of interactive workshops with pre-reading, diagnostic tests, 1-1 support and guided learning materials that will give you a firm foundation in the skills and understanding needed to supervise and lead a team. There will be tutorial sessions open to participants to assist you in your learning. If you are interested in taking the ILM qualification assoicated with this course please contact ilmcentre@exeter.ac.uk expressing your interest. Please note that a registration fee is payable by your department if you wish to take the qualification. What will I get out of it? - An understanding of what strengths you bring to a team and how to recognise and build on this for your team members. - Knowledge of the principles and practicalities of supervising staff, monitoring work, motivating staff and providing direction. - Techniques and activities you can use in the workplace to encourage, support and develop your team.
Course overview: 1/ The roles, functions and responsibilities of the team leader; and the limits of his/her authority and accountability. 2/ Seeking, accepting and responding positively to feedback on personal performance to improve workplace performance. 3/ The organisation's requirements in relation to individual performance. 4/ How to address underperformance. 5/ What motivates people. 6/ How to work within the organisation?s policies, procedures and priorities. 7/ How to plan and allocate work. 8/ How to monitor a team's work. 9/ The difference between leadership and management. 10/ Leadership styles, their use and potential impact on individuals and outputs. 11/ Self-managed teams.
