Coaching Conversations in the Workplace
| Description | Who is it for? Anyone who wishes to develop powerful listening and questioning skills to improve their conversations in the workplace and beyond.
What is it about? This two session course focuses on how you can develop and adopt a coaching style in conversations and see the benefits this produces. You will also discover how to apply coaching skills to action learning and see how this can be a powerful force to help people explore problems, realise opportunities and find solutions.
What will I get out of it? During this course you will: 1) understand how coaching skills work and how they can be used to create powerful conversations to help people. 2) learn how to develop a range of coaching skills and have the opportunity to practice these. 3) experience being a coach and begin coached. 4) gain understanding of the value of giving and receiving feedback as part of adopting a coaching style. 5) learn how to be part of an action learning set.
Course overview: Part 1: Preparing for Coaching Conversations. You will be introduced to the theory of coaching and its practice in the workplace, comparisons of different paired-support interventions. You will also examine, and attempt to better understand, how you relate to others. Finally you will be introduced to the theory and practice of Action Learning. Part 2: Practicing in a Safe Environment. You will have a chance to use coaching skills to conduct a conversation with another delegate and give and receive feedback on how the conversation goes. You will then take part in two Action Learning sets with the opportunity to facilitate, present or be a member of the set.
Is there anything I need to do before attending? Delegates must have planned their learning and have full agreement of their Manager to take part in both sessions. Delegates should also think about a problem, issue or opportunity they would be happy to share with another delegate as part of the exercises.
