Cross-Cultural Competency Training

Description

Who is it for?

This programme was initially developed in conjunction with the Business School to support their staff in building their cross-cultural competence so that they can work more effectively in an increasingly internationalised environment.

The programme has now been opened up to Academic and Professional Services staff in all Colleges.

What will I get out of it?

By the end of the session delegates will have.

1) Reflected on the cultural expectations they may have in their professional lives and what influence these may have on their interactions with people from other cultures.

2) Heard from cultural perspectives different from their own.

3) Explored a number of areas of potential cross-cultural difference (including status and hierarchy, concepts of time, communication, approach to task and relationships, approach to teaching and learning) and thought about what impact this may have on their work.

4) Had an opportunity to share good practice with colleagues and reflected on the areas of this competence they want to work on.

Is there anything I need to do before attending?

A pre-course learning needs questionnaire will be circulated for completion shortly before the session date.
