Who is it for?

Aimed at employees who have some involvement in finance within the University and wish to gain an understanding of the bigger Financial picture.

What is it about?

How does Finance work within the University of Exeter? Where do we receive our funding, how is our money spent? This course will give you an overview of the role of Finance within the University and will include how and why certain processes work, why financial procedures and regulations are in place and information on how to obtain further detailed information or support.

Course overview How finance works in the University including the structure aims and responsibilities of Finance, an introduction to the financial regulations and framework.

Where does the University receive it's income and how much do we receive for our students.

What is Research income? How do professional services receive their funding to operate and what other contributions do the Colleges make? What does the University money get spent on? What is a surplus or a deficit? How does the finance planning cycle work and why is it so important? Why and how do we code income and expenditure correctly?

What will I get out of it?

You will be able to.

1) Explain how finance is structured within the University.

2) Describe from where we receive our main streams of income and how it is spent.

3) Explain the importance of the finance planning lifecycle.

4) Interpret the finance coding structure of the University.
