Developing Individual Mental Toughness (ILM)

Description

This course is part of the Preparing for Senior Management Programme (ILM Level 4 Certificate) and Experienced Middle Manager Programme (ILM Level 4 Award).

Who is it for?

All staff who have had at least 3 years experience of managing others and (usually) who have some influence on operational direction including budgets.

Typically, the target audience will have undertaken some management development in the past.

What is it about?

This is one of a cluster of workshops that comprise the Experienced Middle Manager's Programme.

The programme is designed to give you further insight into the middle management role and to provide a foundation for those who are considering career progression as a manager.

This particular workshop explores how you can develop mental toughness, a major factor in building workplace resilience.

What will I get out of it?

You will assess your own mental toughness and learn how this can be developed.

You will also plan to develop your own mental toughness.

Specifically, at the end of the workshop you will be able to: - Explain the importance and implications of mental toughness.

- Evaluate a model that measures mental toughness.

- Measure own mental toughness using a relevant model.

- Using the results of own mental toughness assessment, examine the implications for self and organisation.

- Evaluate tools for developing mental toughness.

- Produce an action plan to develop own mental toughness.

- Explain the benefits of implementing the action plan.

- Explain how you will monitor and evaluate the action plan.

Course overview:

- the way in which you react and cope to the challenges that you face during the course of your work.

- the implications of your own mental toughness in terms of personal effectiveness and effectiveness within the University.

- techniques for managing personal stress; practical session to develop these skills and apply them to areas of your development that have been highlighted in the questionnaire.

- reflection on your learning and develop action points.

Is there anything I need to do before attending?

Yes.

You will undertake the ILM MTQ48 Instrument.

You will receive 1-1 feedback on this which will be scheduled.

Do I get a qualification?

Yes, if you register for the ILM Level 4 Award (or Certificate) in Leadership and Management.

Assessment:

This is carried out as part of the ILM Award and features a written assignment.
