Computing for Beginners
| Description | Who is it for? Anyone who has no (or minimal), computer experience.
What is it about? This course is about the basic principles of using a computer and finding your way round the Windows environment. It is two half-day sessions, held over two consecutive weeks. The dates and times are as follows: Step 1: Thursday, 25th October 9:30 to 12:30 Step 2: Thursday, 15th November 13:30 to 16:30 (You will need to attend on both dates).
What will I get out of it? The course will enable you to gain an understanding of the basic features of computer. It will include terminology and jargon used and how to use features generic to all computers.
Course overview: Ergonomics _ Health and Safety issues. Switching a computer on and off, logging in and passwords/security. Keyboard layout. Windows operating system terminology. Launching programmes (Microsoft Office). Navigating between programmes. Windows control buttons/ task bar. Opening, Saving and Closing files. File Management (Creating Folders, Copying, Moving and Deleting Files). Using Cut, Copy and Paste. Simple editing techniques. Printing.
