Who is it for?

This course is for university staff who regularly undertake tenders and award contracts for goods, works and/or services for the University.

What is it about?

All procurement exercises whether these are lower value Request For Quotation?s (RFQs) or high value Invitation To Tender?s (ITTs) have a defined procurement cycle which can be expressed in four pillars ? `Prepare?, `Compete?, `Contract? & `Manage?.

This day-long course introduces the `Compete? and `Contract? elements and covers what stages need to be followed in order to fully compete and put in place robust contracts for your procurements to ensure the procurement process is efficient as possible and provides the best Value for Money outcome for your College or Service.

What will I get out of it?

COMPETE: By the end of this session you will be able to: 1.

Describe how to undertake a competition for the University; 2.

Explain why competition is important; 3.

State at least two benefits competition brings to your department/the University.

CONTRACT: By the end of this session you will be able to: 1.

Understand how to award a contract on behalf of the University; 2.

Explain why good, robust contracts are important; 3.

Define when a contract comes into existence.

Discuss why it is important to implement transparent yet robust contracts your goods, works & services; ? Various group interactive exercises to test knowledge and understanding and whether the LO?s have been met.

Is there anything I need to do before attending?

You must have undertaken the `How To...

Prepare? Procurement course which teaches you how to prepare to undertake a tender or competition for goods, services or works and discuss why it is important to prepare for tendering your requirement.

You may also like `How To...Manage? which teaches you the basics of supplier relationship management.

Do I get a qualification?

No formal accreditation/qualification; there will be a certificate of attendance.

If you have a further interest in gaining a formal accredited procurement and supply chain qualification there are organisations available who can facilitate this.

CIPS (Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Chain) http://www.cips.org/ Assessment Attendees will not be formally assessed.

There will be a quiz at the end to test that the required learning has taken place.

There will also be group work, interactive activities and feedback.

Learning provider This course is administered by Staff Learning and Development and delivered by Procurement Services; please contact procurement@exeter.ac.uk for any queries.

Evaluation Please advise evaluation requirements (in line with evaluation policy): Attendees will be required to provide initial feedback on the training day.

Learning and development will be in contact after approximately 2 weeks to ask for further evaluation using an online questionnaire.
