Doctoral Supervision

Description

This session is designed to inform and support academic and research colleagues who are new or relatively new to the role of doctoral supervisor.

Drawing on recent research into supervisor roles and the postgraduate research student experience, it will cover a range of topics relevant to the role, as well as providing you with an opportunity to explore aspects of supervision with peers and with the Dean of the Research Faculty, Steve Rippon.

Aims and Outcomes:

Having participated in the workshop, you will be able to demonstrate enhanced knowledge and understanding of: 1) Principled approaches to supervision, in an era in which careful project management and completion rates are required by funders.

2) University expectations of supervisory teams, mentors and PGR students themselves.

3) The administrative requirements associated with doctoral supervision.

4) The PGR skills agenda and its relevance for candidates and supervisors.

5) Issues of particular interest to you in your role as supervisor (through Q and A with the Dean).

6) How and where to gain ideas and advice in the future with regard to supervision, as and when the need arises.

Additional Information:

PLEASE NOTE DUAL VENUES WILL OPERATE AT STREATHAM AND CORNWALL CAMPUSES WITH EVENT LEADERS IN EACH VENUE.

THIS WILL BE VIDEOCONFERENCED BETWEEN THE TWO CAMPUSES.
