Videoconferencing for Teaching - A Brief Introduction
| Description | This session is designed to give academic staff a brief introduction to teaching via videoconference. The workshop aims to improve your confidence by explaining the positive and negative aspects of teaching in this way. There will be an opportunity for a brief discussion on lecturing via videoconference and the important points to remember when structuring your lecture. This session is for academics that are already or will be teaching to students via videoconference internally or between campuses. This course is also applicable to academics that will be having their lectures video recorded for publishing onto Exeter's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
Aims and Outcomes: By the end of the session you should be able to. -Understand the impact on an audience of using videoconferencing technology for learning and teaching. -Have limited knowledge of effective strategies to engage a remote audience. -Understand basic aspects of presentational style and its impact on a remote audience. -Feel more confident in your understanding of the aspects of your lectures which will be affected by videoconferencing.
Additional Information: Course content. -A brief summary of past and current usages of the technology across the institution. -General discussion of your intended use of videoconferencing and any concerns or questions you have. -Brief demonstration of the types of technology you will encounter and their useful features and limitations. -An explanation of the student?s perception participating from the remote and local audiences. -Demonstration of the 'Do's and Don'ts' of lecturing via videoconferencing. -Further information about the AV support available, and access to further training and resources.
