ASPIRE Guidance Workshop

Description

Course Description:

The ASPIRE (Accrediting Staff Professionalism in Research-Led Education) scheme is designed to enable University staff who have a teaching role, or who support students? learning, to gain both internal and external accreditation for their expertise and experience.

We can offer you the opportunity to work towards and apply for an ASPIRE Fellowship at one of four levels: Associate; Fellow; Senior Fellow and Principal Fellow.

Through gaining an ASPIRE Fellowship, you will also be able to gain automatically the comparable level of Higher Education Academy (HEA) recognition, since the ASPIRE scheme has been fully accredited by the HEA.

In this relaxed but informative workshop, we will provide an introduction to the scheme, and enable you to ask questions about its relevance to you and your role.

We will explain how it relates to developmental opportunities such as peer review, College and team away days, learning and teaching workshops and other opportunities for peer dialogue.

We?ll also give you some ideas for keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in research into teaching and learning in higher education.

You should then be able to decide, in discussion with your Academic Lead or line manager, whether or not you wish to work towards accreditation.

You will also be given an opportunity to ask questions, and further details of where you can get specific advice on your individual application, should you choose to make one.

Aims and Outcomes:

By the end of the session you should be able to: - Explain the key features of the ASPIRE framework and its relevance to you, your role and your career prospects.

- Decide, in discussion with your Academic Lead or line manager, whether an application should be made, and at which level.

- Identify a range of ways in which you can engage in peer dialogue and other developmental opportunities, including updating yourself on literature relating to the scholarship of teaching and learning, as you work towards an application.

- Outline the nature of evidence you would need to produce for an ASPIRE assessment panel.

- Know where and to whom you can go for further advice on your individual developmental, accreditation and application route.

Additional Information:

Please note: before the session, you will be sent a copy of `ASPIRE Guidance for Applicants?.

It would be very helpful if you could read this in advance of the workshop.
