Teaching International Groups
| Description | This interactive session is designed to develop your skills in the teaching of international groups. Contributors to the event include Nel Boswood from Education Enhancement and Gareth Butt from INTO.
Aims and Outcomes: By the end of the session you should be able to: - Understand more clearly the different ways in which the UK academic culture can be challenging for international students. - Select from a variety of ideas and techniques for supporting students experiencing this new academic culture. - Create good group dynamics when teaching groups from diverse backgrounds. - Consider some aspects of the way you communicate.
Additional Information: The session will be tailored to suit participants and will include a selection of the following: 1 An opportunity to hear about some of the challenges experienced by our international students. 2 An activity to share and develop ideas for enhancing our teaching of international groups. 3 A brainstorm of techniques used to create good group dynamics. 4 A scenario-based activity to focus on communication skills. There will be handouts to take away at the end of the session which will provide further reading on the topics covered.
