Using Technologies in Your Lecturers

Description

Increasingly lecture theatres are being equipped with a wide range of technologies that can be used to enhance your lectures.

It can be confusing, for example, how to switch devices (such as computer, video player, document visualiser, etc.) through a projector and this session will help academics to address these skills using the console system used in theatres throughout the University.

Lecture recording is very popular with students who are requesting this service as it becomes more available.

This session will discuss the advantages of these facilities and how to use them in academics? teaching.

We will also discuss the use of videoconferencing.

Maintaining student attention during lectures can be challenging and in this session we will discuss the use of voting technologies that allow lecturers to conduct quick audience polls at any time during a presentation and have results immediately displayed for analysis.

Aims and Outcomes:

By the end of the session you should be able to: 1 Understand how to use the Crestron control panel used in most lecture theatres.

3 Know the procedure for requesting a videoconference and use simple videoconferencing software such as Skype and Adobe Connect.

4 Use the Turning Point voting system in teaching rooms and create live polls using Powerpoint.

Additional Information:

The session will concentrate on demonstrations of the items above however as this will be taught in small groups there will be opportunities for participants to get hands-on practice with the technologies.
