Using Technology to Assess Your Students Online
| Description | Creating on-line assessments (both summative and formative) can provide an efficient and effective way of evaluating your students. Assessments can be marked automatically together with the instant provision of feedback. A comprehensive set of on-line assessment tools exists within the Exeter Learning Environment (ELE) and this course will focus on using these to create on-line tests. There will also be discussion on the pedagogical issues of how to create effective on-line assessments, especially on the need to provide good feedback.
Aims and Outcomes: 1 Understand the different on-line quiz facilities (and question formats) within ELE (including Hot Potatoes). 2 Create quizzes within ELE (including feedback) and apply the relevant settings for release. 3 Understand the pedagogical issues of creating on-line questions, especially the need to provide automatic feedback. 4 Access and interrogate student on-line quiz scores within ELE.
Additional Information: The session will concentrate on demonstrations of the items above however as this will be taught in small groups there will be opportunities for participants to get hands-on practice with the technologies.
