Health & Safety: Safety in Fieldwork and Working Overseas

Description

A practical look at fieldwork planning covering risk assessments and legal requirements.

Included are supervisory and training needs for the activity, conduct in the field, transport and equipment, health matters, emergency action and accident reporting.

This course is aimed at staff who organise and/or supervise fieldwork activities for teaching and/or research activities at home or overseas in places not under University control.

This is a very diverse area and will include activities like archaeological digs, social survey interviews, suba diving, factory visits and the more traditional activities like surveying/collecting by geologists, geographers and biologists.

Voluntary and leisure activies are excluded along with work experience and similar activities controled by another employer.

However, travel to overseas locations for placements is included.
