Sustainable Fresh Ideas
Fresh Ideas, the University's internal catering and function team, have recently introduced several sustainability inspired initiatives.
Chilled water
Fresh Ideas have installed a water filtration and purification system so chilled water can now be provided in refillable stopper bottles. This is a cost effective and environmentally sound alternative to plastic bottled mineral water. It is also a positive statement about the University’s commitment to sustainability. For only 80p per litre you can get great tasting chilled water whenever you need it, which is particularly useful when there isn’t a readily accessible source of tap water. Don’t forget to choose the “Fresh ideas Still / Sparkling Water” from the Fresh Ideas booking system.
New green buffet option
Fresh Ideas now offer a Green Impact finger buffet in their new menus (page 13). All produce is locally sourced, over 50% is vegetarian and meets the requirements of the Green Impact criteria.
Reducing milk and packaging waste
Fresh Ideas have introduced a Pergol system with chilled, lidded jugs for the distribution of milk to reduce milk and packaging waste.
Local sourcing
Wherever possible Fresh Ideas use local products and suppliers. They also try to arrange consolidated deliveries to reduce transport carbon emissions.
