Presenting the cheque to Devon Wildlife Trust
Retail outlets raise over £1600 for local wildlife charity
University Premier shops across the Streatham Campus helped to raise £1617.44 for Devon Wildlife Trust over the past 12 months.
In a bid to reduce their environmental impact and to encourage staff and students to reuse their bags, the retail outlets at Birks Grange, Cornwall House, Queen’s car park and St David’s station have been charging for all bags used.
Karen Gallagher Sustainability Manager said: ‘We are delighted at the amount of money the retail outlets have managed to raise. We are working in close partnership with Devon Wildlife Trust and are pleased to be able to support them in this way. This initiative has also allowed staff, students and visitors to think twice about the resources they use.’
Gillian Winsor, Retail Manager also commented, ‘We were overwhelmed by the amount of money that we have raised, and are also pleased so to see so many customers reusing their own bags. We will now be looking at further ways in which we can help to support the University’s waste reduction targets.’
