The 'slash and burn' agriculture which threatens the rainforests is the focus of the Mike Hand’s 25 years of research.

'Up In Smoke' film screening and talk

Up In Smoke', an award winning documentary film will be screened on the Exeter and Tremough campuses. There will also be a seminar and Q&A session with the scientist behind the film, Mike Hands.

The University of Exeter Sustainability Team in conjunction with Bee Society from Tremough Campus are showing ‘Up In Smoke’, an award winning documentary film. The film follows Cornwall based scientist Mike Hands who has spent 25 years working to find a solution to the 'slash and burn' agriculture which threatens the rainforests of the Central and South America. His solution ‘could save more carbon emissions annually than all global aviation combined…but is the world ready to listen?’ Entry to the film screening is free. The film is being screened in Exeter at 6pm, Wednesday 1st February in Queen’s Building Lecture Theatre 2 at 6pm. The Tremough screening is at 4:30pm, Friday 3rd February in Daphne Du Maurier Lecture Theatre A.

The following week we will be video-linking live between the two campuses for a talk from Mike Hands. There will also be a Q&A session; an opportunity for you to learn more about the story behind the film.  Entry is free. The talk will take place at 6pm-8pm in Queen’s Building Lecture Theatre 2 (Exeter) and Daphne Du Maurier Lecture Theatre A (Tremough) on Tuesday 7th February.
