Students’ Guild wins Gold Environment Award

The Students’ Guild achieved Gold in the NUS Green Impact Awards 2012.

The Students’ Guild achieved Gold standard and scooped a special award at the NUS Green Impact Awards 2012. Green Impact is a national environmental accreditation scheme that recognises students’ unions’ efforts to green their working environment and change environmental behaviours. Norrie Blackeby, who led the Students’ Guild’s Green Impact team, said “this award is a culmination of years of conscious improvements and shows the Guild’s commitment towards the environment and sustainability.”

The Guild’s Green Impact team has made many positive changes throughout the year in all areas of their activities. The Guild’s ICT Coordinator, and Sustainability Coordinator, Edmund Phillips, was successful in requesting that the Guild’s IT supplier use less packaging for the goods they order. The Guild has also launched the Exeter Community Garden, a collaborative project with the local community and University.

In recognition of the success of the Exeter Community Garden and the Guild’s Slow Food On Campus society activities, the Guild also won the prestigious Slow Food Better Eating award at the annual Green Impact Awards ceremony held in Manchester last week.

To keep up to date with the Students’ Guild’s green achievements, go to their Green Impact webpage or the Exeter Community Garden website.
