Education and Student Experience Dual Assurance

Education and Student Experience Dual Assurance has responsibility for the management of the University's Education Strategy, including monitoring of University performance and measuring progress in delivering agreed institutional priorities in the area of education.

The Independent Lead is Sir Richard Atkins, the Management Lead is Professor Tim Quine, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Education, and coordinator is Jonnie Critchley, Business Manager to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor. Education and Student Experience Dual Assurance meetings are also attended by the Academic Dean for Students, Director of Education and Student Support, the Students' Guild Vice-President Education and the Falmouth and Exeter Students' Union President Exeter.

Environment and Climate Emergency Dual Assurance

Environment and Climate Dual Assurance is concerned with the formulation and development of the University’s Environmental Sustainability Policy.

The Enviroment and Climate Emergency Dual Assurance Independent Lead is Glenn Woodcock, the Management Lead is Hugh McCann, Director of Estate Services. Secretariat support is provided by Lianne Moore, PA to Director of Campus Infrastructure & Operational Support Services. ‌

Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity Dual Assurance

Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity Dual Assurance is concerned with the University’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity activities and initiatives, and with driving forward the University’s commitment to creating a working, learning and social environment that is free from discrimination and promotes a culture of dignity, respect and equality of opportunity. 

The Independent Leads are Salam Katbi and Amoetse Mkwena, the Management Lead is Linda Peka, Deputy Registrar and Chief College Operations Officer, and Dorcas Cowan, Equality, Diversity & Inclusivity Manager, acts as co-ordinator for the Dual Assurance partnership.‌

To drive forward the University’s commitment to creating a working, learning and social environment that is free from discrimination for any irrelevant or irrational reason and promotes a culture of dignity, respect and equality of opportunity. 

To have a strategic overview of the University’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity activities and initiatives.

To advise the Council of the University on the progress and performance of the University’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity action plan and the University’s responsibilities under the general public sector equality duty which requires the University to have due regard to the need to:

• Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act
• Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
• Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.

To be appraised of any external factors which may impact upon the University’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity agenda.

To provide support and advice to the Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity team.

Human Resources Dual Assurance

Human Resources Dual Assurance is concerned with the reviewing the human resources policies of the University, including the implementation of major policy initiatives. 

The Independent Lead is Salam Katbi and Amoetsoe Mkwena, the Management Lead is Imelda Rogers, Director of Human Resouces, and secretariat support is provided by Gail Reeves, Executive Officer to the Director of Human Resources

Estates Dual Assurance

Estates Dual Assurance is concerned with the development, delivery and review of the University's Estate and Capital Programme. 

The Independent Lead is Sarah Buck, the Management Lead is Hugh McCann, Director of Estate Services, and Pam Navran acts as co-ordinator for the dual assurance partnership.

The Estates Dual Assurance was renamed in August 2019 and was previously known as Estates and Sustainability Dual Assurance.

Ethics Dual Assurance

Ethics Dual Assurance is concerned with the delivery and review of the Ethics Policy, for the provision of oversight on matters relating to research integrity and governance and for providing leadership on ethics, research integrity and governance across the University and wider community. 

The Independent Lead position is currently vacant, the Management Lead is Professor Neil Gow FRS, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Impact, and administrative support is provided by Gail Seymour, Research Ethics and Governance Manager.

Global Strategy Dual Assurance

Global Strategy Dual Assurance has responsibility for overseeing the management of the University Global Strategy, including monitoring of University performance and measuring progress in delivering agreed institutional priorities in the area of global partnerships. 

The Independent Council member for Education is Graham Cole, the management lead is Professor Richard Follett, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement, and is supported by the Business Manager to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Global Engagement, Dr Helen Butler.

Information Technology Dual Assurance

Information Technology Dual Assurance is concerned with the development and delivery of the IT strategy, and ensuring that the risks relating to activity in the business area are being well managed. 

The Independent Lead is Andrew Greenway, the Management Lead is Mike Shore-Nye, Registrar and Secretary, in partnership with the Chief Information and Digital Officer. The meetings are supported by Rob Hart.

Innovation and Business Dual Assurance has responsibility for overseeing the management of the University Business Engagement Strategy, including monitoring of University performance and measuring progress in delivering agreed institutional priorities in the area of business and innovation. 

The Independent Lead is Malcolm Skingle, the Management Lead is Professor Richard Follett, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for External Engagement, and secretariat support is provided by Helen Butler, Business Manager to the DVC for External Engagement. Innovation & Business Dual Assurance meetings are also attended by the Director of Innovation, Impact and Business.

Marketing and Reputation Dual Assurance

Marketing and Reputation Dual Assurance is concerned with the University’s marketing and reputation across Corporate, College and Professional Service areas. 

Marketing and Reputation Dual Assurance group was formed from the previous External Affairs and Corporate Social Responsibility.

The Independent Lead is Jo Binding, Management Lead is Sean Fielding, Interim Director of Marketing, Recruitment, Communication and Global and secretariat support is provided by Tracey Smith, PA to Director of Communication and Corporate Affairs.

The group meets four times per academic year and the dates for 2022/23 are:

Research and Impact Dual Assurance

Research and Impact Dual Assurance is concerned with the formulation and evolution of the research and impact strategy and ensures that all aspects of the Strategy are being implemented effectively. 

The Independent Lead is Malcolm Skingle, the Management Lead is Professor Neil Gow FRS, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Impact), supported by the Director of Research Services Drs Astrid Wissenburg.

Advising the Leads is the Research and Impact Strategy Management Group. This is composed of the Associate Deans for Research and Impact who meet on a monthly basis to ensure the delivery of the Research Strategy at College level.
