"Coming from India, where the concept of a university campus life is quite rare, I knew that if I was going to study abroad, the campus experience would be incredibly important. The location was a huge draw. Coming from a bustling city like Bengaluru, I found Exeter’s relaxed vibe really refreshing - it offers the perfect blend of city and countryside. I love walking along the historic quayside every evening and sitting on the lawns of the cathedral with a coffee as I read a book!
The city is small enough to feel welcoming and being student-friendly, it is easy to navigate. And the train station is just a five-minute walk from the University, connecting you to major cities like London easily.
My favourite thing to do on weekends is take a train and head to a quaint beach town like Paignton and Torquay, and even St. Ives in just a couple of hours. This makes day trips super easy and avoids the need for hotel stays. If you’re an outdoor enthusiast like me, the proximity to Cornwall and Dartmoor National Park is a huge bonus. I’ve spent countless weekends hiking, going on incredible coastal walks, and just generally soaking up the nature vibes."

"One of the things I love most about studying at the Penryn Campus is its location. Penryn has a safe, small-town feel which I know is reassuring for my parents back home. It is easy to get around and feels very student-friendly, with everything you need within walking distance.
The campus is only minutes away from the sea, and I often spend time at nearby beaches like Gyllyngvase or Swanpool in Falmouth. Some of my happiest memories so far have been simple moments such as walking along the coast after class, watching the sunset with friends, or enjoying fish and chips by the harbour in Falmouth town. Cornwall itself is stunning, and studying here has given me the chance to explore hidden coves, coastal trails, and the unique charm of seaside villages.
Being in the UK has also made it easier to travel further afield. Last Christmas, I spent time in Edinburgh with friends from the Vietnamese Society. Experiences like these remind me that university is not only about studying, but also about discovering new places and making memories along the way."

"Winter in Exeter is a season that feels almost otherworldly, particularly for someone experiencing their first Christmas in the UK. As an international student, stepping onto the university campus and into the city during December is like entering a storybook, where every corner is touched with lights, every aroma carries the warmth of festive treats, and every sound – from bells to laughter-fills the air with quiet magic.
The Exeter Cathedral Christmas Market is a must-visit. Strolling between wooden stalls, filled with handcrafted scarves, ornaments, candles, and festive treats, I felt a mixture of awe and belonging. Christmas in Exeter is a celebration of connection, creativity, and quiet magic. Students can immerse themselves fully in workshops, music, sports, and markets, or enjoy simple pleasures like a walk beneath twinkling lights or a cup of hot chocolate by candlelight. By embracing both the planned activities and the spontaneous joys of the season, every student can experience a Christmas in Exeter that is both enchanting and unforgettable."

"As an international student, not being able to check out the accommodation in person during the Open Day was a bit of an inconvenience for me. Lucky for us, the University accommodation has its own website, and their user interface is top-notch. It’s intuitive and accessible, which is a big relief when you’re trying to make such a major decision from afar. Plus, it’s packed with all the info you need, from room layouts to facilities, and they even threw in some video tours!
Handling everything from the application process to payments through their website was a total lifesaver for me, especially considering the massive time zone difference - I didn’t have to worry about making phone calls at odd hours. Plus, their email response time was very quick. It felt like they were right there, ready to tackle tonnes of questions or concerns I had. And get this: during the application process, they even considered our preferences (although not guaranteed), like whether we wanted a same-gender or mixed-gender flat and a quieter area. Talk about going the extra mile!"
