Access to Internships (A2I)

Due to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation, we would ask that you consider carefully regarding whether the role is remote working or workplace, both are possible under the Access to Internships (A2I) Scheme. If the role can only be undertaken in the office, we ask that you work with any new student staff to ensure they are following the COVID-19 safety guidelines and that Government COVID-19 policy is adhered to. The Internships Team will be working remotely, undertaking normal working office hours, Monday-Friday, 9am -5pm, so please use email a2i@exeter.ac.uk as the first point of contact as phone lines will not be answered. If your enquiry is urgent please highlight this in the subject bar of your email and we will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.

Students and graduates, please visit our Student Facing Pages.

Access to Internships (A2I) is a fund to help employers offset the cost of hiring a University of Exeter student or graduate on a UK paid internship or graduate role. All interns must be employed by the internship organisation and paid through the organisations own payroll system. Students can be employed part-time during term time, or full-time during the summer vacation and graduates can be employed full-time. Employers can receive more than one subsidy, to a maximum of two subsidies per year across any A2I funding sources available.

Student Widening Participation (WP) Funding:

Available for UK: Micro, SME, Not for profit, registered Charities, Statutory Organisations or internal University of Exeter employees who have been approached by a student who meets the Widening Participation (WP) Criteria.

SW Business Funded Internships:

Available for UK Micro, SME, Not For Profit or registered Charities that are based in Devon, Cornwall or Somerset (within a 25 mile radius of Exeter).

Students and graduates are encouraged to approach companies to arrange their own paid internship. If you have found a University of Exeter intern and would like to take advantage of the funding, please get in touch so we can verify what funding the student is eligible to draw down for your company and provide you with further information. Please contact A2I@exeter.ac.uk or 01392 722617.

The Internships Team can advertise your student vacancy and graduate role to help you find the right candidate. When you place your vacancy to advert with the internship team, A2I may be able to reserve funding for you.

Due to the Equality Act 2010, we will not be able to reserve or advertise roles for companies wishing to soley apply for the Widening Participation (WP) funding. Instead Students are encouraged to speculatively approach companies to arrange their own paid internship, however once you have appointed we will then be able to check to see if your student meets the Widening Participation (WP) Criteria, which may attract further funding for your organisation.

If you wish to advertise a vacancy please complete the Internship Vacancy Form and return it to internships@exeter.ac.uk. You will then be contacted by a member of the Internships Team to discuss the advertising and recruiting process.
