Event Description: The Arabic word ashlaa’ refers to scattered body parts and dismembered flesh and bones—a tragic reality in Gaza today. Yet, ashlaa’ also emerges as a vital concept for understanding and resisting the situation, as speaking about it becomes an act of defiance against passivity in the face of horror. Prof. Shalhoub-Kevorkian will explore ashlaa’ as a concept rooted in the lived experiences of Palestinians in Gaza. It signifies both the extreme violence and terror they endure and their refusal to accept genocidal dehumanization.
