A Grand Challenges promotional event in partnership with the GSI & the Sustainability Team

Event details

Klaus Mitchell is a journalist, entrepreneur, and public speaker—including at UN COP conferences, universities, schools and companies such as Meta—known for his contributions to health and environmental advocacy.

Mitchell has always had a passion for health, initially coming top of his year for Human Biosciences BSc from the University of Exeter, and then doing a masters in The Genetics of Human Disease MSc on a full scholarship at University College London.

His journey in sustainability gained global attention through a Heineken advertisement called ‘Worlds Apart’, a social experiment where he was paired with a climate change skeptic. The campaign, which sparked dialogue on bridging ideological divides, achieved 50.5 million views in the first month and was featured on CNN, Good Morning America and USA Today.

Mitchell has since played a significant role in environmental filmmaking, including serving as script editor for the Netflix documentary Seaspiracy, which gained over 6 billion impressions in its first two weeks and reached the platform’s top 10 list in multiple countries.

As a founder and innovator, Mitchell has launched several media platforms, including Secret Dining Hub and Plant Based News. The latter is a leading voice in the conscious living and lifestyle medicine movement, with nearly 4 million followers and a mission to inspire sustainable change worldwide. Mitchell’s latest venture, The Sustainability Awards highlights and celebrates groundbreaking achievements in sustainability across industries.
