Event details
Amidst burgeoning evidence for the beauty, strength, fragility and flux of our natural world, and global efforts to protect its future survival, the UKRI-funded ‘Rewilding’ later prehistory project is building a positive archaeological account of human-landscape relationships over an extended time period in Britain.
Our talk presents initial project work to gather and interpret a substantial body of evidence for prehistoric wildlife (from 2500 BCE to 43 CE), to build a toolkit for characterising archaeological wildlife, and to question if and how archaeological approaches like this can contribute to current nature recovery efforts.
Drawing these various project strands together, we will feature ongoing collaborative work with colleagues at the Universities of Exeter, Oxford, Reading and Toulouse to investigate the wildness (or not) of horses in later prehistoric Britain.
