Schools Across the Ocean: Using the "UN Inner development goals" and creative pedagogies to develop multilingual practice in climate and ocean literacy

Event details

The Schools Across the Ocean programme offers a transdisciplinary approach to climate and ocean literacy for children aged 9-12. Our mission is to help students and educators connect across our one ocean, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for their local environments.

Through collaboration, students engage with scientists, enriching their knowledge of ocean science and climate issues. They learn to express their unique perspectives and stories through art, film, and writing, empowering them to advocate for their communities.

The children and teachers who are part of our network speak many languages.  This talk will describe how the Inner Development Goals and a creative pedagogies approach were used to encourage and validate multilingual practices in climate and ocean literacy.  It will consider key challenges and how they have been approached by teachers in Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates and the UK.
