Event details
As Muslim communities worldwide navigate rapid technological advancement, biomedical innovations, and environmental crises, the application of classical Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) to contemporary ethical challenges has become increasingly urgent. Traditional legal frameworks face unprecedented questions about artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, and climate action that require sophisticated jurisprudential responses.
This interdisciplinary workshop brings together leading international scholars to examine how Islamic legal methodology addresses three critical areas of modern concern: artificial intelligence and digital ethics, biomedical ethics and biotechnology, and environmental stewardship. Participants will investigate both the possibilities and limitations of classical fiqh frameworks when addressing twenty-first-century dilemmas.
This workshop offers key insights for scholars of Islamic law, bioethics, and environmental studies, as well as practitioners seeking to understand how classical jurisprudential frameworks can inform contemporary Muslim ethical decision-making. Beyond theoretical discussion, the workshop identifies concrete pathways for implementing jurisprudential insights within Muslim communities navigating modern ethical dilemmas.
