Beeta Baghoolizadeh - Jinn and Haunted Memories of the Indian Ocean

CGS Virtual Seminar Series

Event details

In this presentation, Beeta Baghoolizadeh examines race, memory, and the supernatural in Iran and the broader Indian Ocean world during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. By drawing on religious texts, illustrated folios, and family narratives, she explores how the advent of modernity in Iran caused the blurring of once established categories, creating a vacuum filled with new racial and racist imagery.
