Hackathon for Hacktoberfest 2025
We are delighted to support George Datseris with this year's Hacktoberfest!
Hacktoberfest is arguably the largest internationally coordinated event whose purpose is to promote the culture of open source code. It is a month-long celebration of open source code that is repeated every year and is backed by thousands of open source projects.

Event details
Most of modern academic and industry infrastructure relies on open source projects. These projects are and maintained by passionate people who often don’t have the staff or budgets to do much more than keep the project alive. Hacktoberfest is all about giving back to those projects by motivating opensource contributions. Besides becoming part of an amazing global phenomenon, participating in Hacktoberfest also leads to sharpening your skills and increasing your network.
We invite everyone at the University of Exeter, be it staff, student, visitor, anyone that is using some sort of open source software in their work and is willing to give something back. The goal is to contribute one (or more!) pull request to an open source repository hosted on GitHub.
Join us on a self-organized Hackathon event on 31 October 2025 in the Computer Lab, SWIoT, which is just past the Harrison Building, North Park Road, Exeter EX4 4RN (map) on the Streatham Campus from 10:00-16:00 GMT (or for less, as you are able).
George Datseris, the Hackathon organiser, will also be able to provide some tips regarding GitHub (which is where you have to contribute your contribution). However, it is best to join the Hackathon already with a contribution in mind!
