Abstract
This talk will explore the science behind 2 tools currently being developed: Planting-Tools and a DEFRA app. Both have the task to help policy makers look for ways to optimally plant trees at scale and achieve certain targets. The main goal includes offset as much CO2 as possible while costing the least amount of money. We look for the optimal solution, quantify preferences, and explore target-compatible alternative suboptimal solutions. The core methods rely on optimization, sampling, and preference elicitation.
