Event details

The lecture will be held on Wednesday 28th January in Baring Court BC114 from 11.35am to 1pm (and streamed via Teams for those unable to be on campus - link below).

Abstract: ScopeSEND offers a unique and comprehensive review of policies regulating Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision across 14 jurisdictions worldwide. These include the UK, Ireland, Australia, Finland, Switzerland, Belgium (Flanders), New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, Ontario, France, Poland, Estonia, and the Netherlands. Funded by the Nuffield Foundation, the project combines multiple methods to deliver a full policy analysis, covering inputs (policy regulations), processes, and outputs (lived experiences of implementation), in each context.

Through triangulation of document and corpus analysis, evidence review, and interviews in each country, the project identifies patterns linking policy elements to user experiences—both positive and negative—within and across jurisdictions. These insights are critically examined against the backdrop of England’s evolving SEND policy landscape.
