Please do join the Department of English and Creative Writing on Thursday 7 May 2026 at 4.30pm (Henderson Lecture Theatre, XFI Building) for this year's Teagarden Lecture, which will be given by Professor Paul Gilroy, Emeritus Professor of Humanities (UCL).
Paul Gilroy is one of the most insightful and influential thinkers of the last four decades. He is a Fellow of the British Academy, the Royal Society of Literature, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He was awarded the Holberg Prize in 2019, given “to scholars who have made outstanding contributions to research in the humanities, social sciences, law or theology,” and the Holberg Committee praised Paul as “one of the most challenging and inventive figures in contemporary scholarship. His work has influenced, and, in some cases, reshaped several fields and sub-fields, including cultural studies, critical race studies, sociology, history, anthropology and African-American studies.”
The talk starts at 4.30pm and there will be a drinks reception after the lecture from approximately 6pm to 7pm.
