Past Lectures:
In 2025 we were delighted to welcome Professor Dame Clare Gerada MBE to deliver her in-person hybrid lecture, 'Why Are Doctors So Miserable?', talking about the rise in mental illness among health professionals and others - asking what is causing this? Is it that we are measuring it more or is there a real increase. If the latter. Why? The hybrid lecture was followed by a Q & A session with Professor Richard Holland, Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the University of Exeter Medical School.
In 2024 Professor Chris Whitty delivered a fascinating and timely lecture based on the CMO’s Annual Report 2023 and summarised its key findings. It highlighted strategies to improve the quality of life for older adults, covering aspects such as enhancing independence, addressing the needs of ageing populations in rural areas, implementing preventive measures, adapting environments, and advocating for inclusive research and better management of health conditions like multi-morbidity and frailty.
