Q-estival 2019: People, Data and Society

The event, to be held 09th - 13th September, is intended to bring together members of University and the wider Q-Step community to enrich our understanding of social data science, the data needs of our community partners and the broader relationship between culture, data and society.

Monday (Knightley Building)

11.30 - 12.30: Professor Vernon Gayle (University of Edinburgh) - "Transparent and Reproducible Social Data Science" A reflection on tools and techniques suitable for lifecourse and equality research

12.30 – 13.30:  Buffet Lunch

13.30 – 14.30: Janine Khuc, R-Ladies (Amsterdam) - “Diversity and Inclusivity in Data Science” – Janine’s talk will cover lessions learned from setting up the Amsterdam R-Ladies Group. Co-hosted by Exeter R-Users Group

15.00 – 16.00: Exeter R-Users Group - Networking Session including a guest IPA from Topsham Brewery

16.00 - 17.00: Judy Brown, Poet, Peter Challenor (University of Exeter), and Professor Beth Wingate (University of Exeter) - "What kind of creature is it? Mathematicians and poets quantify uncertainty"
