Our focus

Exeter Centre for Eastern European and Eurasian Studies is an interdisciplinary community of scholars working on various countries of the region as a crucial historical and contemporary nexus for global interactions. Our members undertake innovative, cutting-edge research across humanities, arts, and social sciences and seeks to challenge and reassess existing perspectives, approaches, methodologies and pedagogies, pushing the boundaries of conventional views on this complex region.   

Aims

  • Foster an inclusive and interdisciplinary research community for scholars working on Eastern Europe and Eurasia. 
  • Collaborate to advance innovative, ethical, and sustainable approaches to researching the region.
  • Support the growth and professional development of postgraduate and early-career researchers. 
  • Build collaborative research and training partnerships with institutions in the UK and internationally that focus on the region. 
  • Develop cross-departmental Master’s modules and enhance both postgraduate taught (PGT) and postgraduate research (PGR) programme offerings. 
  • Develop outreach to schools locally and nationally to recruit a diverse cohort of undergraduates .
  • Consolidate the University of Exeter’s status as a leading interdisciplinary hub for Eastern European and Eurasian Studies.  

ECEEES members also contribute to Exeter’s Strategy 2030 research themes of: Health and Wellbeing ; Climate Emergency and Ecological Crisis and creating Fair, Socially Justice and Inclusive Societies
