Environmental Justice Educational Research Network
The Environmental Justice in Educational Research Network (EJERN) brings together educators, researchers, practitioners, and community partners who share a commitment to addressing issues of environmental justice through and within education.
We understand environmental justice as a commitment to equity, participation, and accountability in how environmental decisions are made and whose knowledge is valued. It involves ensuring that all communities have the opportunity to live, learn, and thrive in healthy environments, while recognising the interconnections between social equity, cultural values, and ecological sustainability, and promoting the fair and inclusive distribution of environmental benefits and responsibilities.
We explore how diverse forms of education, namely formal, informal, community-based, and lifelong learning, can respond to the complex social, cultural, and ecological challenges of our time. Our work recognises that environmental justice is not only about access and equity, but also about the values, voices, and practices that shape how people learn to live well with each other and the planet.
EJERN provides a collaborative space where ideas from across disciplines and sectors meet. We aim to bridge academic research and educational practice, fostering dialogue that deepens understanding of how education can contribute to fairer, more sustainable futures.
Through talks, workshops, and shared projects, we connect people working in education, policy, and community contexts to exchange perspectives, build partnerships, and generate actionable insights. actionable insights. By raising the visibility of environmental justice in educational research and practice, we hope to influence both policy and pedagogy in transformative ways.
We welcome new members and collaborators from across education and related fields.
If you are interested in joining the network, contributing to a project, attending an event, or simply staying in touch, please contact us, we would love to connect and co-create.
