Building Shared Momentum: Our UK-Indonesia Week at the University of Exeter
From 23 till 28 November, we had the pleasure of welcoming Nur Azizah and Puja to the University of Exeter.
As a comparative project between the UK and Indonesia, the visit created the kind of shared momentum that’s hard to achieve through Zoom and emails. Throughout the week we held a series of meetings and workshops, including rich discussions with Professor Lindsay Hetherington (Head of the School of Education) and Dr Annabel Watson (Director of Education and Student Experience), and hands-on sessions at the Streatham Campus with the accessibility team - Jessica Rouke and her colleagues. The team also had a valuable session with Rachel Griffiths and Juuso Nieminen, and met with colleagues from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta to explore future collaborative projects.
We ended the week with two meetings with the advisory team Professors Neil Harrison and Brahm Norwich. We also decided on the project’s next steps and mapped out their publication plans for the months ahead.

What stood out most was the shared commitment across the team to making higher education more inclusive not just in principle, but through practical, evidence-informed change in both countries.
We wrapped up the visit with a genuinely lovely and unforgettable dinner, kindly hosted by the wonderful Eleni Dimitrellou. A perfect way to end a busy and energising week.
Thanks to Nur and Puja for making the trip from Indonesia to Exeter and for the thoughtful contributions throughout.
