If you have started your fellowship in the past year, please join us for your fellowship induction and become an active part of the Exeter Fellows' Network. Our fellowship induction provides an overview of the support available to you across the university and an opportunity to meet your peers, building informal support networks.

In the induction, we will: 

• Celebrate your success in winning a fellowship and think about what it could mean for your future career development; 
• Orientate you with the university’s research culture and environment to ensure you are in a position to capitalise on the opportunities available; 
• Understand what support and training is available to you, both through the Fellows’ Network and more widely within the university; 
• Navigate internal structures and signpost to support you may need around recruitment, finances and other elements of your award; 
• Consider a timetable for what fellows should be thinking about as their award progresses; 
• Have time to meet your peers and establish informal support networks across departments and disciplines; 
• Hear from established fellows at the university. 

Network meetings and training

Our annual interdisciplinary network meeting is held in Term 2 and focuses on skills development for building interdisciplinary connections across the University. Find out when the next event is and sign up below.

In this event, we will: 

• Outline how fellowships fit within wider university strategies and priorities and review the wider sectoral context; 
• Explore the importance of demonstrating citizenship and leadership as your fellowship progresses, and how existing fellows have navigated this;  
• Review case studies of interdisciplinary working and understand how you and your research can benefit from an interdisciplinary approach in the longer term; 
• Explore the skills required to engage with peers across disciplinary approaches and languages; 
• Undertake a facilitated session to support you in reflecting on your negotiation and influencing skills; 
• Actively develop and apply these skills with peers. 

Additional Fellows' Network training provision is flexible and based on demand from members, so if you have an idea for a focused meeting, please reach out to rdandp@exeter.ac.uk. 

Shadowing scheme

Our shadowing scheme allows fellows within the last two years of the fellowship to either shadow a departmental leadership role and/or sit on a departmental committee, board or steering group. The scheme enhances familiarisation with, and controlled exposure to, the wider academic responsibilities that your fellowship may not currently require. It provides the opportunity to build your knowledge and experience of these roles before potentially being required to undertake them in a future academic role. Specific opportunities will vary depending on your host department.

Career mentoring support is available through our mentoring scheme - Perform Learn Develop (PLD).  

Research Exchange Programme

Fellows can participate in our Research Exchange Programme, pairing with a fellow in a different discipline to provide peer-to-peer support, broaden perspectives and develop a shared language.

We are developing a fellowship mentoring scheme pairing early- and late-stage fellows to provide support in navigating this key career stage.
