How our stroke rehabilitation research is changing lives

Every year, more than 12 million people worldwide experience a stroke. For Bernie, it was a moment that changed everything - but also the start of a journey that’s helping to shape the future of stroke rehabilitation - supporting people everywhere to regain independence, confidence, and hope.

Led by Hatem Lazem and Professor Helen Dawes and funded by MRC/EPSRC and the Ministry of Higher Education and Science Research in Egypt, this research is exploring how gamified Non-immersive Virtual Reality exercises can make stroke recovery more engaging and effective. By combining cutting-edge technology with clinical expertise, the team is helping clinicians deliver more personalised, effective care for every patient.
