MRC Centre for Medical Mycology

International units

The MRC CMM is establishing CMM Units in regions of the world suffering high burdens of endemic fungal disease to increase regional capacity and research in medical mycology. The CMM AFRICA Unit was established in 2017 at the University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa, and the CMM LATAM Unit was created in 2023 at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The CMM unit in South East Asia (CMM SE ASIA) will follow in 2026.

CMM International Fund for Global Advancement of Medical Mycology - Round 1 (now open)

A principal aim of the MRC Centre for Medical Mycology (MRC CMM) and its International Units is to facilitate and enhance global mycology research and development (R&D) aimed at advancing knowledge on fungal pathogens and the diseases they cause for the benefit of the people in the geographic regions where the CMM International Units are located.

To achieve this aim we have funding available to support grants for pump-priming projects. These will typically be for seed-corn projects (up to £30k and up to 24 months in duration) that will support innovative R&D with a clear pathway to secure further funding. Deadline for applications 9 February 2026. To learn more and apply visit our webpage Funding Calls.
