Responsible Research Assessment

Responsible research assessment – of which responsible metrics is a part – is fundamentally about ensuring research and researchers are assessed fairly and transparently. This is why peer review and peer assessment still lie at the heart of many academic processes. However, use of quantitative indicators – such as publication citations, journal impact factors or university rankings – have also gained prominence in how research institutions, research and researchers get judged.

Research not assessed fairly?

If you feel that your research may not have been assessed fairly, we encourage you to raise your issue with your line manager or faculty executive team.

You may also wish to share your experience through our feedback form. This can be filled in anonymously and will help provide the Responsible Research Assessment Group with insight as to how we may wish to shift research culture and influence policy going forward.
