About this course:

The aim of this course is to share and discuss the key principles of effective data visualisation and to inspire you to start to tell better stories with your data.

Learning outcomes:

As a result of attending this course, you will be able to: - Explain some key psychological ideas which help us to present data effectively.

- Utilise the fundamental principles of good data visualisation.

- Create tables of data which communicate your story effectively.

- Select the right type of graph for presenting your data.

- Create graphs which communicate your story effectively.

Who should attend this course:

The workshop is specifically designed Research active staff, and would be particularly useful to Early Career Researchers, whose role involves presenting data through any reporting platform.

Presenter(s):

This session is delivered by Dr Dan Isaac.

Dan Isaac is the University's Data Literacy & Training Lead working within the Digital department.

Building on his comprehensive experience working in Business Intelligence and Finance roles at the University, Dan is now dedicated to building the culture and resources required to develop data literacy across the University.

He has been teaching Data Visualisation for more than a decade.

As well as teaching within the Business School, his training has been completed by more than 800 people across various higher education, NHS and private sector organisations (see https://www.getdataconfident.com/training.html).

No preparation is required for this course however, if you have a particular data visualisation example or challenge that you are happy to share with the group then please feel free to contact Dan Isaac (D.J.Isaac@exeter.ac.uk) prior to the event.
