Researcher Development : Need-to-Knows for Early Career Researchers

Description

Theme:

Education and Research

Category:

Education and Research This activity is for Research active staff and would be particularly useful to Early Career Researchers.

This session will be DELIVERED IN-PERSON.

About this course:

When academics are appointed as a lecturer, they are thrown so far into the deep end from the (very different) world of postdoc or PhD student that it?s such a jarring change of pace and direction which totally derails people during these important years.

It is becoming apparent to universities that staying afloat during the first years as a lecturer is something that junior academics really do need support with.

Yet, beyond internal mentoring schemes, there is little formal provision for this support.

This workshop will cover issues relating to workload, managing a lab group, and maintaining the balance of research, teaching, and administrative duties to help you thrive in your first years as a lecturer.

Tailored for early-career researchers who are approaching, or in their first few years of, an open-ended (permanent) academic job, this half-day (3.5hr) workshop will be a mixture of delivered content, Q&A, and facilitated discussions.

.

If you want to get a flavour of the workshop, please do have a look through some of Gavin's blog posts: https://gavinbuckingham.wordpress.com/ .
