Researcher Development : Workload Management for Academics - working with, rather than against, your workload

About this course: . There are just so many things to do as an academic. Lecturing today, seminar to prepare, marking due, grant to write, research opportunity just appeared, dissertation students need help. As an academic who feels like they are just about enjoying juggling this multitude of simultaneous activities, I don?t promise to have the answers, but I do have some reflections on how I have changed things for the better with regard to managing my workload. This will be a 30-40 minute presentation, with time for questions/discussions at the end. . Learning outcomes: As a result of attending this course, you will be able to:. - reflect on how to best prioritize activities. - reflect on the `cycles? of an academic life across the year. - reflect on the value of self-care for longevity! Who should attend this course: The course is specifically designed Research active staff and would be particularly useful to Early Career Researchers, Postdocs, research fellows, and lecturers. Presenter(s): This session is delivered by Gavin Buckingham. Gavin is a cognitive psychologist interested how humans perceive and act upon their environment with their hands. He was awarded his PhD in Psychology from the University of Aberdeen in 2008, and is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Public Health and Sport Sciences at the University of Exeter. He leads the Object Interaction Lab and is a member of the Virtual Immersive Training and Learning group. At Exeter, Gavin co-leads the Exeter Immersive Research Network, and also serves as the University of Exeter UK Reproducibility Network (UKRN) institutional co-lead, with a focus on research culture. He maintains a blog called 'Making it as an early-career academic', and runs workshops for PhD students and for academics at the start of their career as a lecturer.
