Multifaith Chaplaincy Events

All our events are free of charge and open for staff and students of all faiths and none. Most events are drop-in without any registration required, but some may need to be booked to guarantee a space.

Spring Vacation at the Multifaith Chaplaincy

Hello all, we're here to let you know there are still happenings at the Multifaith Chaplaincy over the spring vacation (30th March to 24th April). So have take a look below to see what we have on offer and if you're around on campus, pop by!

Mindful Craft

Monday 30th March and Monday 20th April; 12-2-pm. Simple crafts together with some fun conversation and sense of community

Connections Cafe

Tuesday 31st March and Tuesday 21st April; 12-3pm. Connect with others over some light chatter with hot drinks and snacks. Sometimes there are even baking opportunities and lunch!

Take a Moment

STAFF ONLY. Continuing as usual online; every Wednesday 9-9:30pm. A moment of pause and reflection from Christian perspective for staff members mid-week. 

Buddhist (SGI) Chanting

Friday 3rd April and Friday 24th April 12-12:30pm. From the Soka Gakkai (SGI - Nichiren) tradition, the chanting lasts for 25 minutes and ends with silent prayers for peace.

Pause with the Quakers

Continuing as usual; every Friday 1-1:30pm. Weekly Quaker meeting (worship) for 30 minutes.

All the following events are free of charge and open to students and staff at the University of Exeter - of any faith background or none. Please feel welcome to join different groups, in turn learning about the different experiences of faith and community.

Exploring the Bible

Every Monday 11am - 12pm

Our Christian Chaplain Jenny Hudson leads a small and inclusive Bible exploration group, focussing on different themes every week. She hopes to encourage students who aren't as familiar with the Bible from other faiths and cultures to explore together with her. This takes place in our Multifaith room at the Sarah Turvill Multifaith centre with all welcome to join; of any faith or none.

 

Mindful Art and Craft

Every Monday between 12 - 2pm.

Join our Anglican Chaplain Hannah Alderson for some mindful crafts in the Sarah Turvill Multifaith Centre. There is a different craft activity to try each week. No artistic skill necessary and all are welcome!

 

Mindfulness at Lunchtime

Every Monday 1 -1:20pm

Take 15 minutes of pause in your busy day to breathe, relax and reset. Stay for a cup of tea and chat after if your schedule allows.

Run by our Pagan Chaplain Judith Morgane, in the multifaith space at the Sarah Turvill Multifaith Centre and open to all University students and staff.

 

Connections Café

> Sarah Turvill Multifaith Centre: every Tuesday 12-2pm,
> St. Luke's Chapel: every Thursday 12:30-2pm.

Connections Cafe

Connections Café offers free refreshments and is hosted by members of the Multifaith Chaplaincy team. It's a chance to chat to friends or meet new people often alongside craft/mindfulness activities with treats provided.

Everyone from the University is warmly invited and welcomed!

 

Zen Buddhist Meditation

Every Tuesday 6:30 - 7:30pm

Weekly evening meditation following the Zen Buddhism tradition. Session led by our Buddhist Chaplain John Danvers in the Multifaith Room of the Sarah Turvill Multifaith Centre. This is open to all at the University to join.

Every Wednesday 9 - 9:20am

Take a moment

An opportunity for staff to pause and reflect as the day begins.

We will begin with music, poetry or prose, before entering a time of joint silence. On the first Wednesday of each month, we will guide you round our Labyrinth.

This session is only open to staff members of the University. Run by our Anglican Chaplain Elly Mosely in the Multifaith Room of the Sarah Turvill Multifaith Centre.

 

Humanist Hour

Every Wednesday 1 - 2pm

Do you know what a Humanist is? What core beliefs they have, and the work they do?

Come to our weekly Humanist Hour event at the Multifaith Centre to find out. Led by our Humanist Chaplain Jackie Watson, you will have the opportunity to informally chat and get to know different humanists who will share about themselves and their practice. This is a drop-in event, open to all at University.

 

Will's Student Crafternoon!

Every Wednesday 2 - 4pm

Ever think where all the lovely arts and crafts around the Chaplaincy comes from? Likely Will's Crafternoon group!

Every week, Will shares a craft activity with a group gathered in the common room space. With Will's boundless talent and expertise, you're guaranteed to craft something amazing! If not, then you're still welcome to simply sit with the group and engage in light touch, fun conversation.

This group is open to all at the University to take part in at the Sarah Turvill Multifaith Centre.

 

Christian Celtic Prayer

Every Thursday 12:30 - 12:50pm

For 20 short minutes, feel welcome to join our Christian Celtic prayer group run by our Free Church Chaplain Simon Taylor. This session takes place in the Multifaith Room at the Sarah Turvill Multifaith Centre and open to all University students and staff.

 

Nichiren (SGI) Buddhist Chanting

Every Friday 12 - 12:30pm

Buddhist Chanting event

Weekly Buddhist chanting session following the Soka Gakkai (SGI - Nichiren) tradition. At this session, two chapters of the Lotus Sutra are recited, and then the words Nam Myoho Renge Kyo. The chanting lasts for 25 minutes and ends with silent prayers for peace throughout the world and the happiness of all living beings. This session is led by our SGI Buddhist Chaplain Billie Snowden, and held in the Multifaith room of the Sarah Turvill Multifaith Centre.

 

Pause. with the Quakers

Every Friday 1 - 1:30pm 

Pause with the Quakers

An opportunity to take part in a Quaker meeting (worship) lasting 30 minutes. Through this you can learn about the Quaker practice, connecting with Quakers in the community and the wider work they take part in.

Led by our Quaker Chaplain, this weekly session is open to all; taking place in the Multifaith Room of the Sarah Turvill Multifaith Centre.

Soup Lunch @St. Luke's Chapel

Wednesday 25th March: 12:30 - 2pm

As simple as it sounds! Find a pocket of community and pop over to St. Luke's Chapel on the 25th March for a hearty bowl of homemade vegan soup - courtesy of our Anglican Chaplain Hannah Alderson.

This event is open to all to all at the University of Exeter, of any faith background or none and is free of charge.

 

Ramadan Soup Dinner

To celebrate our Muslim community at the Multifaith Chaplaincy and University of Exeter, we hosted a free soup dinner at the Multifaith Centre at the time of Iftar; the Islamic breaking of fast meal. All at the University of Exeter were welcome to join this Multifaith event, regardless of faith background. This event was led and run by our Muslim Chaplain Emine Dogan Mia.

 

Peace Circle

The Forum Street, Wednesday 3rd December 2025; 12:30-1:30pm

Peace Circle 2025

Join with us to bear witness to the pain of war and conflict, to offer solidarity with all who suffer and to cultivate peace within ourselves and between ourselves and others. Simply to be together in peaceful stillness and silence can be a small step in healing the pain of conflict - an expression of trust, respect and care for our fellow human beings whatever our backgrounds, beliefs and values.

In an increasingly divided and polarised world it is important to come together in peace and unity - and to affirm and celebrate the diversity of our one worldwide human family.

 

Multifaith Christingle Gathering

The Forum Street, Friday 5th December 2025; 12-7pm

This is our yearly Christingle Gathering for the whole University of Exeter community.

Christingle Making; 12:30 - 4:30pm

Join us, using candles, oranges and sweets to make what is known as Christingles! These Christingles are symbolic in the UK, traditionally made in the season of Advent.

While crafting our creations, we will reflect on the different parts of the Christmas story. This is open to all, of any faith background or none. We will provide all materials and show you how to make it!

Christingle Gathering: 5pm

our Chaplains will be leading a Christingle Gathering in the Forum. Join us singing traditional Christmas Carols, hear Christmas readings and light our excellently crafted Christingles. Music will be held by the fantastic by the University’s own Mary Harris Chapel Choir!

Afterwards there will be free snacks and refreshments; including fresh mince pies, mulled wine and spiced hot apple juice!
