Reverend Hannah Alderson

Lazenby Chaplain (Anglican / Church of England)

Hannah grew up in Taunton, Somerset, and made the short journey down the M5 to read Theological Studies at the University of Exeter from 2005 to 2008, where she also served as Chaplaincy Admin assistant.

She worked for Devon County Council for three years before training for ordination at Ripon College Cuddesdon and reading for an Oxford MTh from 2011 to 2013.

Hannah was ordained deacon in 2013 and priest in 2014 and served her curacy at Holy Trinity Bridgwater and St Hugh's Durleigh. She also served as Young Vocations Adviser for the Diocese of Bath and Wells.

From 2016 to 2019, Hannah served as St Luke's Anglican Chaplain alongside a half-time role as Vocations Development Officer for the Diocese of Exeter, promoting vocation to ministry in the Church of England, and accompanying those who were in the process of discerning their calling.

Hannah has been Lazenby Chaplain since June 2019, looking after Church of England provision on Streatham and St Luke's campuses. She is available to meet for confidential pastoral conversations with students or staff, no matter what their faith background. She has a particular concern for those who feel on the edge of University life.

Hannah is a supporter of Inclusive Church, believing that God's love and acceptance extends to all. She loves lectio divina and creative approaches to liturgy and prayer. Her interests include the theology of art and literature, disability theology, creative writing and poetry.

Hannah can normally be found in St Luke's Chapel on Mondays and Thursdays, and on Streatham Campus on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, in Mary Harris Chapel or her office in 106, The Old Library.

The Lazenby Chaplain is the Church of England (also known as Anglican) Chaplain for Streatham Campus and (since June 2019) also St Luke's Campus in Exeter.

The Lazenby Chaplain is an Official of the University, appointed jointly by representatives of the University and the Diocese of Exeter, and funded by The Lazenby Trust which was set up from the estate of the late Katherine Maud Lazenby of Tiverton – hence the name!
