The chapels

We are blessed with two beautiful chapels:

  • The Mary Harris Memorial Chapel of the Holy Trinity on Streatham Campus
  • St Luke's Chapel at St Luke's Campus

St Luke's Chapel was consecrated in 1863, when St Luke's was an independent Church of England Teacher Training College. St Luke's Campus became part of the University in 1978. The Chapel was extensively remodelled and refurbished in 2024, with the levelling of the floor and the installation of ramps and a lift, to make it more accessible. The St Luke's Chaplain is the Rev'd Martha Inch.

The Mary Harris Memorial Chapel was consecrated in 1958 and is the home of the University of Exeter Chapel Choir, although they also sing at many other locations, including St Luke's Chapel on special occasions. The Chapel has a prayer board where everyone is welcome to come and leave a prayers which are read and prayed for regularly. The Chapel is served by the Lazenby Chaplain, the Rev'd Hannah Alderson.

Both chapels embrace the same inclusive theology. Each Chapel tends to naturally develop its own community and traditions, but everyone is welcome to attend either (or even both) chapels; you don't need to be working or studying on either campus in order to attend the chapel there. Christmas services are held in both Chapels.
